Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month is an opportunity to learn about the rich histories, cultures and contributions of GRT communities in Scotland and beyond. It supports learners to challenge stereotypes and discrimination, and to develop respect for different ways of life. This links to global citizenship by exploring inclusion, fairness and human rights, helping learners understand the importance of equity and belonging in their own communities.

In the Identity and Diversity music unit of A’ Adam’s Bairns, learners respond to music featuring the voice of Traveller singer Sheila Stewart, exploring how music can express identity and challenge prejudice.

Unit 5 of A’ Adam’s Bairns focuses on Prejudice and Discrimination, with lessons exploring the lives and experiences of Gypsy/Travellers in Scotland. These include real voices, photographs and more. Designed for use across Social Studies, HWB and Literacy, this unit supports anti-racist and inclusive teaching alongside an opportunity to celebrate the Gypsy/Traveller community.
